From Young to Young-at-Heart
Saturday was Liwei and Chingling's wedding at the Raffles Town Club. As I have repeated many times that night, never in my life would I expect to see our dear Chingling in a dress, and a gown at that! But after introductions and greetings, I'm pleased to report she's still the old Chingling that we know.
I guess it must have taken quite an amount of persuading, for what happened that night was really the full works of a traditional Chinese wedding dinner, with the toasts, the complimentary performances put up by friends and relatives (Yueheng, bard of the class, even nicely performed several songs), right down to the customary costume changes.
As expected, the wedding couple ended up having eaten the least.
This is the second wedding in the class so far. And so far, the record stands at 2 guys (Shaoyun & Liwei) and 1 girl (Chingling). Of the wedding dinners I have attended so far, these two were of those in the same generation as I. So far it had all been of older cousins who were at least 10 years ahead of me and of whom I knew little. This suddenly spawned a realisation: we aren't young anymore. Yet at the same time, I don't feel the age in the physical sense. I'm still working, exercising, have full use of my facutlties. But it must be acknowledged that we aren't 16 anymore, nor 21 or 22.
We are steadily changing from being young to being the young-at-heart. I hate that euphemism.
PS: Having the wedding dinner on a Saturday was an extremely good idea. People don't have to leave early to rush home for work or school the next morning. Something to take note for my own, if it ever comes.
